hydrangea

I recently bought a hydrangea and put it in a pot with humus soil and hortensia feed. We had a lot of rain and it seemed okay but within a week the flowers are withered. Do I cut the heads off and hope it survives or do I wait till the heads dry. It does'nt seem to have a disease or infestation and I sprayed it with insecticide when I bought it. Has anyone got a suggestion please.

Did the pot/soil get wet in the rain? is the pot in full sun and got too hot? In spain you almost have to treat the pots as you do with hanging baskets in the UK and water 2x per week. If it has finished flowering prune back as in the UK
