I have heard that Aloe Vera is supposed to be good for rubbing on the skin. Has anyone tried this? if so, how do you extract it from the plant? Also can you use any variety of aloe vera or is there one specific variety used?

It is in leaf all year, in flower from May to June. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs)
The plant prefers light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils, requires well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It requires dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought. Reputed to be good for the skin.
