how to grow cypress trees from seed

Hi Subu. I grow a lot of cuttings as my garden is quite large and was just a field. I usually prefer cuttings because you are certain they will grow true, as opposed to collected seeds. I cut them when the weather changes and the parent starts into life. I cut them 160 cams long ( mas o memos)...

    grape vines

Vines, once established don't need much water but reduce the number of rods and also the leaves to aid ripening. you will need to spray for insects and fungus (sulpher spray) and reduce the bunches and the number of grape per bunch (unless you want currants)

A beautiful garden for my apartment in Andalucia, maybe!!

Andalucian garden Firstly you will be planting in lots of pots so surely the soil is irrelevant as you will be buying compost? Look to setting up an irrigation system to cover when you are away (and also when you are there ) as you could find your life is all about watering the pots! Close...

    Seed Potatoes?

Potatoes Potatoes take up a lot of room and here in Mallorca we are close to Sa Pobla where they grow them in huge areas so not cost effective for us. On a lighter note when we went looking for chickens we were told there were only three varieties in Spain...Brown, White and Black but the...

    Welcome to Gardening

Spanish Gardening Take care when pruning woody perennials. Yes they do need pruning but before they get too woody or too tall as you have to prune back ONLY to the green wood and not into the woody bit as they could die or just sulk for some time ....so prune little and often during the dormant...

Including herbs and cabbage plants and lettuce plants and tomato plants ...all for sale for when the locals...

    jasmine

Jasmin Try dama de noche. Can be a shrub or a cactus as both seem to be called the same in Spain and the scent is powerful, but don' forget colourful climbers such as the everpresent bouganvilla ( be careful of the spines close to paths) and campsis radicans

    My wisteria has wilted!

wilting wisteria I'm assuming that there is good drainage in the pot otherwise the soil will get stagnant. All plants tend to wilt on replanting till they get there feet settled. I tend to reduce some of the foliage to reduce transpiration on planting. Also look to a shady spot till it has settled

    hydrangea

Did the pot/soil get wet in the rain? is the pot in full sun and got too hot? In spain you almost have to treat the pots as you do with hanging baskets in the UK and water 2x per week. If it has finished flowering prune back as in the UK

    Plants for very wet ground

Firstly you have to decide which way to go! Either create a bog garden and I will envy your good fortune especially if you can add a natural pond. OR go the other way and drain water into a reservoir for irrigation. Either way to have plenty of water easily available is tremendous good fortune...
