Cuphea (or Cufea)

Cuphea is a perennial shrub. It is a small bush of oval leaves that produces small solitary flowers that resemble a cigarette of intense red color with the black edge and white & purple stamens, between April to October. If exposed to the sun the leaves can turn red in parts. Cuphea prefers sunny spots. It can be grown in shady places but will bloom less. Cuphea is tolerant to windy conditions, however it does not like temperatures below 10°c. It's important to water year round, including winter ensuring the soil doesn't dry out.
